Dr Adrienne Chan

M.B.B.S, F.R.A.C.G.P

I was encouraged and inspired to become a doctor by my father who was a local doctor in a small town in Malaysia. Like him, I moved to Australia to study medicine and graduated from the same university as he did, The University of Queensland.

I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1993 and spent the next few years working in various public hospitals in Brisbane in different specialities to gain experience with a view to becoming a GP. I entered the GP training program in 1996 and was successful in attaining my RACGP fellowship in 1999. January 2000, I moved to Melbourne to pursue life in a different city. I spent the first 6 months working at a travel clinic before commencing consultations at Healthcare on Collins. In 2014, I started working as the admitting GP with the allied health team at the Masada Private Hospital Early Parenting Centre residential sleep and settling program. In 2016, I took some time off general practice at Healthcare on Collins to pursue my interest in skin cancer management, working at a GP specialist skin cancer clinic.

I believe that really getting to know my patients is an essential part of being a good general practitioner by understanding not just my patients’ medical problems, but also their interests, their job with its associated stresses and their families (and sometimes even their pets!). I feel that I can provide the best care possible that will take all areas of their lives into account. My approach has always been to listen to my patients; discuss their concerns with them; inform them of my opinions and involve them in making decisions about their health and care.

I have been consulting at Healthcare on Collins for more than 20 years because I enjoy working with the team of excellent people. I feel fortunate to be working with a multidisciplinary team who help and support each other in patient care.

Some interests outside of work
When I am not at work, I enjoy watching cooking and travel shows with my family and my cat (who has the best seat on the couch), cycling, tending to my plants and hoping to one day get better at snowboarding.
