The Exercise Physiologist at The Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre specialises in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention and management of injuries and chronic diseases.
Anyone who is at risk of developing, or has existing injuries or medical conditions, can benefit from consulting an Exercise Physiologist.
Anyone aiming to resume exercise after an lengthy absence can also benefit from their intervention.
Based on your assessment and needs, using our rehabilitation gymnasium and pilates equipment, our Exercise Physiologist will design an individual exercise program to help you meet your goals, supervise each session if required or desired, assess progress and modify your program as required. He also provides the often needed motivation to continue, at all times taking into account your injury and medical history.
Those who can benefit from consulting our Exercise Physiologist include:
- those with an injury that has prevented regular exercise from being performed
- anyone who has not exercised for a long period of time
- anyone with a chronic disease such as
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Metabolic Disease
- Neurological Disease
- Musculoskeletal conditions including arthritis, osteoporosis, osteopaenia
- Depression or other mental health conditions
- Chronic pain
- anyone wishing to modify body composition (lose weight, increase muscle mass)
Initial assessments with our Exercise Physiologist are one hour, review sessions are either 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on your injury and goals.
Exercise Physiology consultations are often covered under Private Health Insurance. Please check with your private insurer to see if you are covered. Should you have a chronic health condition for which Exercise Physiology would be of benefit, you may qualify for a rebate under a Medicare Team Care Arrangement. Please consult your General Practitioner if this applies to you.
