The Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre proudly supports National Diabetes Week.
This year National Diabetes week runs from the 12th - 18th of July and the campaign raises awareness of the seriousness of diabetes and the growing number of people who have it.
Despite diabetes increasing at a faster rate than other chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer, research conducted by Diabetes Australia shows people do find the numbers hard to believe.
Participants in a recent qualitative research study were shocked to learn that approximately 280 people develop diabetes every day and that diabetes will become our number one burden of disease within the next five years.
The good news is that in some cases, the onset of diabetes can be delayed, and possibly even prevented. A healthy lifestyle is the key, including regular exercise and an appropriately moderate diet.
This is something we can certainly help with. There is a plethora of information available and sometimes getting direction from health professionals such as Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Dietitians is the best place to start.
If you would like to arrange an appointment to see one of our experienced health professionals, please phone 9650 9372 or book online.
