The Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre is proud to sponsor Melbourne’s Midday Miler’s running group. The Midday Milers offer city workers an informal but structured lunch-time training program. The group meets each weekday at the Tan Track. All levels of runners are welcome to join for a variety of casual, easy runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or more intense, speed / fartlek / hill sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. To ensure they cater for all standards of runners, the Tuesday and Thursday sessions have two dedicated ability related groups.
The sessions are generally tailored for runners training for 5K to 10K races but can be adapted for those training for longer or shorter distances. MMMs also do long runs at various locations around Melbourne on the weekend. The Club runs a number of regular events each year. Among the most popular are the March team relays which involve teams of 4 runners running 4 legs each in different courses in country Victoria. These races are great fun for participants and spectators and are run in a friendly competitive spirit.
Our Sports Doctor, David Velten has become an enthusiastic member of the group. David is a Fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as well as being a Member of Sports Doctors Australia and The International Society of Travel Medicine.
In fact Both David and one of our Principal Physiotherapists, Roger Moore, have developed a close association with the Midday Milers and the management of many of the group’s running related injuries. Many of the Midday Milers have come to term a treatment with Roger as a session with 007. Roger’s past experience with The North Melbourne Kangaroos and his own weights background has equipped him well to help advise and rehabilitate this group of passionate and dedicated runners.
