The Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre has a large team of Sports Doctors well placed to diagnose and co-ordinate the management of all sports and musculoskeletal injuries.
All of our Sports Doctors have additional post graduate training or experience. They all currently, or have previously worked with elite athletes and apply the principles of injury diagnosis and management to all of their patients regardless of their level of sport or cause of injury.
Many of our Sports Doctors are also General Practitioners so are able to manage general medical problems in addition to injuries.
Our Sports Doctors are trained to:
- accurately diagnose an injury
- consider any other underlying health issues that may be contributing to an injury
- devise a comprehensive management plan (which may involve other health professionals such as Orthopaedic Surgeons, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Myotherapists or Exercise Physiologists)
- work closely with you to assist with future injury prevention
On-site radiology services allow injury diagnosis to be made promptly and our on-site Allied Health and Specialist centres provide ready access to a wide range of other professionals who can help return you to optimal health as quickly as possible.
When booking an appointment to see a Sports Doctor allow 30 minutes for new injuries. This enables time for adequate history taking, examination and planning.
Whilst not essential, it is also preferable to continue to see the same Sports Doctor or Sports Physician throughout the management of a particular injury. This allows improved continuity of care and helps avoid duplication of investigations or management strategies.
A referral is not required to see our Sports Doctors as they are also General Practitioners.
