Shoulder Pain & Shoulder Injury

Shoulder pain may originate from the true shoulder joint (with its surrounding tendons and ligaments), the nearby acromio-clavicular (A/C) joint or be referred from the neck (cervical spine)

It may be a result of acute trauma or injury, in which case it is suggested a Sports Doctor be consulted for initial assessment to make a diagnosis, arrange any further investigations that may be warranted and formulate a treatment plan.

Shoulder pain may also be a result of over-use or wear and tear in which case chronic ongoing pain may be assessed by a Physiotherapist or a Sports Doctor in order to establish a management plan.

The treatments used in shoulder pain include medication, physiotherapy, massage, acupuncture, injection techniques or possibly surgery.

These need to be followed with an appropriate rehabilitation / exercise program usually formulated by a Physiotherapist guiding a controlled return to activity.
