Pregnancy can be very demanding on the female body and contribute to back or pelvic pain.  Often this is a result of the increasing movement of the ligaments around the pelvis.  Physiotherapy treatment can often help to reduce or relieve this pain with gentle soft tissue treatment, exercise prescription to activate stability muscles and even the use of taping or a support belt to stabilise the pelvis if the pain is severe.  We use a special pillow to allow the patient to comfortably lie on their stomach for treatment with no harm to the baby.

Post childbirth can also be traumatic on the body with back, hip, pelvic and abdominal pain.  Your Physiotherapist can advise when it is appropriate to return to activity and which exercises are safe and best to help improve the muscle control around the abdomen, back and pelvis.
